Petar Mazev

Macedonia , b. 1927

BIO:

Petar Mazev (10.2.1927- 13.3.1993)
Petar Mazev was born in 1927 in Kavadarci, Macedonia.
Petar Mazev is one of the most important authors of the Macedonian contemporary art, and is one of the main initiators for the establishment of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1953 in the class of prof. Zora Petrovik. He was a member of the group "Mugri" and a professor at the Faculty of Architecture, Skopje.
His work begins with figurative compositions (in the fifties), and almost a decade later he accepted the Informel expression, and after a few years he came up with the idea to put these two manuscripts in parallel on the same picture. In fact, his expressionism went through several phases (in which the "white phase" is especially important), in order to create abstract-figurative expressionism and strong color under the influence of the abstract expressionism of Willem de Kooning and the group Cobra. Thus, his painting becomes an example of the possible coexistence of these two artistic expressions, long antagonistically set and interpreted. He also made mosaics and murals: murals in the Ironworks in Skopje in 1967, mosaics in Stopanska Banka and State Hospital in 1971 in Skopje and Memorial ossuary in Veles 1979, Krushevo 1974, murals in Bus Station Kavadarci, Skopje-Train Station, Brioni).
Mazev had solo exhibitions in Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Paris, Zurich, Munich and others. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions both in our country and abroad, such as: USA, China, India, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland and others.
He has won numerous awards and recognitions:
1961 - The "October 11" Award of the Republic of Macedonia
1977 - November Award of the City of Skopje
1979 - Receives the 1st prize at the Yugoslav competition for art decoration of the interior of the Memorial ossuary of the fallen fighters from the National Liberation War in Veles and the Veles region and performs it in a mosaic.
1981 - Winner of the award "Mosha Pijade" at the Art Salon in Cetinje and others.
His works are found in many private collectors around the world.
Petar Mazev died in Skopje on March 13, 1993.
